Nzinga Imani is a multidimensional force, shining as not only an actress, but as an entrepreneur and a trailblazer in the plus-size fashion industry. Her bold personality has skyrocketed her social media and defines key characters such as her role of Angela in Tyler Perry’s Zatima and Sistas. In addition to lead roles in the BET pilot Curves, and Pretty For a Big Gurl. As well as supporting roles alongside legends such as Taye Diggs and Queen Latifah. Her grown breaking scene in All The Queens Men was career defining.

“The whole trajectory of my career has been about breaking the mold and fighting against stereotypes of plus-sized women,” she states. “Many of the  plus-sized women I know are divas! We look good, dress well, and live successful thriving lives. It’s so important for me to bring this to the forefront and change the narrative.”

Nzinga was born in Queens, New York however she was raised in Atlanta, Georgia. Her mother and father are Guyanese. Her career in the arts may have felt foreign to the family, but not to Nzinga. As a first-generation Guyanese-American, she adopted a tireless work ethic. She grew up singing and acting alongside her sisters with ambitions “to be the next Beyoncé,” she studied Performing Arts in college. She learned the ins and outs of the craft, gaining skills as a makeup artist and designer in addition to building an engaged audience on social media, she landed partnerships with brands such as Fashion to Figure, Fashion Nova, and more.

Nzinga draws inspiration from the careers of Oprah Winfrey, Whoopi Goldberg, Kristin Chenoweth, Melissa McCarthy, Jennifer Anniston, and Viola Davis. She focused all of her energy into acting and creating and went from college to creating online content. Dream, The Urban Musical, was a YouTube musical series that garnered millions of views. She was a fan favorite known for her quick witted replies and dramatic entrances. She is also well known for the musical parodies she has done in collaboration with Queen of the Ratchet. Which still receive millions of views across platforms. Her breakout role in the pilot Curves—produced by BET and Issa Rae’s ColorCreative is largely attributed to this established online presence. Major credits followed such as her role as Dawn in the BET+ Original Series All The Queen’s Men. From that she was able to land a series regular as Angela on Zatima and was added to the cast of Sistas, attracting a global fan base and critical acclaim. She not only starred in, but also produced the upcoming film Friendzone. Expect to see more series and films starring, produced and written by Nzinga Imani in the near future.
